Well, 2025 has officially wrapped up, and if there is one thing we’ve learned, it’s that “industry experts” have about same level of predictive accuracy as a NYC weatherman (looking at you, Roker). Like so many penny stock, boiler room pitch men before them, they are continuing to pump, pump, pump this asset into within an inch of its digital life.
Remember that January 2025 “optimism”? Bitcoin (BTC) was sitting pretty at $100,658.40, and analysts were practically tripping over each other to see who could shout a bigger number for the year-end finish line. Let’s take a look at how those optimistic predictions aged. Short answer: not well.
The Great Expectation vs. The Reality Check
As of January 1, 2026, BTC was trading at approximately $88,200. For those keeping score at home, that is a roughly 12% drop from where we started last year. Here is the “Wall of Shame” for our favorite 2025 forecasters:
- Bernstein analysts: They wanted $200,000 by the end of 2025. Instead, they got a front-row seat to BTC “round-tripping” back to the high $80k range. They’ve now quietly moved back to their 2024 $150k target for 2026.
- Peter Brandt: He forecasted $200,000 by September 2025. September came and went, and while BTC did hit a shiny new all-time high of $126,080 on October 6, it was still nearly $74,000 short of his mark.
- Alex Thorn (Galaxy Digital): Predicted $185,000 by Q4. By the time Q4 actually arrived, the market was in a “rotation and recalibration” phase. He’s now looking at $250,000 for 2027 because if you’re wrong today, just predict a bigger number for tomorrow.
- James Butterfill (CoinShares) & Matrixport: Butterfill saw $150k–$180k; Matrixport predicted $160k. Both missed by about the price of a mid-sized SUV.
What Actually Happened?
It wasn’t all doom and gloom, but it was just… exhausting. BTC actually had a “bullish wave” for the first ten months of the year, fueled by ETF inflows and a “crypto-friendly” political shift in D.C. Then, the “October Hangover” hit. A mix of macro disappointments, tariff headlines, and a massive leverage washout wiped out the gains. While everyone was staring at the ticker, BTC miners were actually the smart ones, by abandoning BTC. They mostly gave up on mining and pivoted to powering AI models because it was actually profitable.
The only silver lining, really, was that the US government didn’t dump the $6.5 billion worth of Silk Road BTC on the open market to flood the supply (most expensive pardon ever?). If the Dems in win 2028, that will happen, however. But, speaking of silver…
But, Everything Had a Bad Year, Right?
Wrong. Silver had a stellar year (+140-162%). So did platinum (+140-166%). Gold did great (+64%). Even lowly copper was a solid player (+36-45%). Zinc limped along but still made money (+1.4-6.6%). Noticing a trend here? The tangible metals, the kinds that exist in the real world, all outperformed the virtual currency king. By a lot.
In the “sell shovels instead of digging for gold” camp, you could have invested in NVIDIA, instead, in January 2025 and made 39%, even in a roller coaster ride of a year for that stock. That’s what Nancy Pelosi did in her portfolio (filled with all the evil tech stocks, including the Democrats’ arch-nemesis, Elon Musk’s Tesla). She raked in returns north of 30% for 2025, beating the S&P 500 by over 15% (another better option, it turns out, than BTC).
The Bottom Line
If you followed the “expert” advice last January, you’re likely staring at a “tactically bruised” portfolio. While the “four-year cycle” is being declared dead by every CEO with an X account, we’re entering 2026 in a “new era.” And don’t worry, the analysts are already back at it, predicting $150,000 to $170,000 for late 2026. I don’t know if they’ll be right, but I will bet any amount of money the very same experts will have a good excuse and another reason why BTC is ready for lift-off! That’s a 100% return when I win that bet, of course.

TitanGPT Says…
Hey, if I can’t dump my entire savings into an extremely volatile intangible notion of debatable intrinsic value with an ever-changing value proposition hyped by malignantly optimistic evangelists, then that’s just not a world I want to live in…
HODL, dumbasses.
